Meet Gaby Bayona, Designer
of Aesling Bride

When and how did you get your start as a designer?
My mom was a bridal seamstress who eventually opened a very small custom dress shop, so I spent my childhood surrounded by wedding dresses. When I turned 18, I started custom making graduation & wedding dresses. When I turned 20, I launched a collection of my favourite custom designs on Etsy – under the name “Truvelle”. From there, I kept growing – eventually opening multiple stores across Canada & launching three more labels, Laudae in 2016, Aesling in 2019, and Brelle Rosée this past summer.

WHERE DID YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR aesling?
I travel a ton, and am constantly inspired by my surroundings & the design I see around me. I also find a lot of inspiration through our brides – me & my team are always talking to our retail partners, and I personally still host bridal appointments to make sure I truly understand what each bride is looking for.

What’s your best shopping advice for our Lovelies?
Appointments go by quickly, so I’d recommend doing a little research beforehand and having an idea of the styles you’d like to try. At the same time, stay open-minded and trust your stylist’s recommendations – they may pull something you wouldn’t have chosen for yourself!

When + how did you get your start as a designer?
I’ve always loved creating something unforgettable. My journey started in London where I studied fashion design and worked with some of the most legendary names in bridal. I wanted to bring something fresh to the table—combining my love of couture and French corsetry into gowns that felt modern, effortless, and personal. Opening my Sydney boutique was the perfect way to merge my love for timeless craftsmanship with a fashion edge.

What do you love most about the design process?
I love the process of turning an idea into something real. Seeing a bride try on their gown and realize, “This is it”—that’s the best part. It’s not just about the dress; it’s about creating something that makes a bride feel incredible, like the most confident version of themself. That’s why I have spent my life creating gowns, for the emotion it ignites.

Modern, self-assured, and unapologetically oneself. The Moira Hughes bride doesn’t settle—they’re all about finding something that feels right. I’d love to design a gown for a movie. Creating something iconic that people talk about for years would be a dream.
