We are huge fans of Michele (and know you are too!) so we caught up with her about the Moonrise Canyon collection, where to get those amazing boots, and what she’s most excited for during her trip to NYC! You mentioned that the Moonrise Canyon collection was inspired by the American Wild West- and many of the dresses are named after stunning western cities- what about this part of the US inspires you (or continues to inspire you?)
Michele : I have always been hugely inspired by nature. As a kid growing up in the US, our family used to road trip through the Grand Canyon and I will never forget that feeling of utter amazement. Miles upon miles of breathtaking horizon that has forever changed the way I see the world.
If you could spend a week anywhere in the Wild West, what city would it be and why?
Michele: There are so many Western cities we fell in love with, that it would be impossible to choose! The smaller towns throughout Utah and Arizona where definitely some of the coolest places to stop. But if we had to choose a “Wild West” location…We started out our campaign in Pioneer Town which was an actual movie set for Western films. I felt I had stepped back in time and what an unreal experience to be able to photograph in American Film History.
What inspired the Moonrise Canyon color palette?
Michele: Definitely the natural rivers and red rocks of the southwest were our biggest influence. The Tucson gown’s warm palette looked like a dream amongst the canyons!
Any muses that inspired the collection or specific dresses?
Michele: Our brides will always be our muses! Their wanderlust spirit continues to inspire everything we design at RUE. I feel that this collection captures so many different RUE brides and I can’t wait to see these gowns tried on during our trunk show in New York.
Where did you shoot the campaign?
Michele: The team flew into Los Angeles and headed out to Joshua Tree for our first night under the stars. We started the campaign in Pioneer Town, followed by Valley of fire in Nevada, through Utah, into Navajo Nation, and ended up on a ranch in Arizona. We spent three days in a van and I would do it all again in a heartbeat!
We are head over heels for the accessories and styling of this collection- how did you find the jewelry, hat, and boot designers?
Michele: My team work year-round on finding the right accessories and most unique artisanal jewelry specific to the inspiration of the collection. We were so excited to create unique pieces with local designers and even a boot range with Wandering Coyote, which can be found on their website.
Do you have a favorite dress in this collection?
Michele: Difficult question! Presley makes my heart sing. She feels like the right balance of romantic and modern. And those sleeves!
We are SO EXCITED to have you in New York for our Trunk Show from Sept 27-29- anything you’re looking forward to doing while in NYC?
Hanging out with the coolest brides and working with the incredible team at Lovely Bride. Every stylist brings their unique touch to the collection and I seriously can’t wait for the styling magic they create with our brides.
Favorite restaurant or place to visit in the city?
I will be eating at all Mexican restaurants within walking distance from my hotel and if there is free time, wandering the streets and soaking everything in.
