Tell us about the dress and what inspired your look.

Dan and I wanted our wedding day to be laidback and fun, yet sweet and classy.  Kind of how we are as a couple!  We accomplished that by choosing a naturally gorgeous venue with lots of outdoor components, and incorporating fun details from the cocktail hour corn hole, to the open-air photo booth and post-reception firepit with s’mores.  When searching for a dress, I wanted it to have a personality similar to the vibe we were creating for the whole day.  I also wanted to feel like myself!  I knew I wanted something simple with a hint of vintage charm and the Watters “Belize” gown was a perfect match!

What were the most important details to pulling off your dream wedding?

Making it OURS.  We wanted to step away from what is “supposed” to take place at a wedding and format the day the way that felt right to us and our relationship.  We worked hard at the details that made the day special to us and our closest friends and family.  Curated indie-rock music, popcorn programs, signature drinks, polaroid guest book, vintage props Dan and I collected over our engagement (including 200+ bottles and jars used for the flowers!) family-recipes for appetizers and farm-to-table dinner at family-style tables, for examples.  We worked as a team through the whole process and always kept perspective on what we were doing it all for.  We didn’t let the stress that can come with weddings step into ours.

What was the most memorable moment?

I have a few!  Seeing Dan for the first time on our wedding day during our “first look” prior to the ceremony was amazing.  We rented an old Stone House for the weekend near our wedding venue, and that is where we first saw each other deep into a wildflower patch.  It was surreal and incredible.  We both cried like babies. Walking down the aisle, taking it all in, looking at this day we worked hard to put together to showcase and celebrate our love, and seeing all of our friends and family that have been so instrumental in both of our lives looking at me and smiling…  Getting to the arbor where my soon-to-be husband was waiting for me…  Those are moments I will never forget.  Our first dance as husband and wife was sung live by one of our favorite artists, Mat Kearney.  His music has been a large part of our 7+ year relationship and to have him there was an amazing treat.  My siblings and I lit a Chinese lantern at the end of the night as a way of honoring our mother who passed away and was massively missed on my wedding day.  As the lantern hit the top of the sky, an enormously bright shooting star jumped across it.  It was magical.

If you could give future brides any advice, what would it be?

Enjoy the entire process and don’t sweat the small stuff.  I heard so many horror stories from other brides about how stressful planning your wedding could be.  We really kept a laidback approach to the whole thing and always kept our eyes on the bigger picture, which was a day celebrating US.  Make it about you!  Step away from the way its supposed to be and enjoy the details.  Enjoy the time with your best gals getting ready before the wedding!  This was so memorable and enjoyable for me.  We rented a beautiful house to do this at, made mimosas, nibbled on local donuts and hung out while the record player spun classics like Fleetwood Mac on repeat.  Take moments throughout the day to take it all in.  It goes by so fast and I cherish the mental photos I took from that day that will stay with me forever.
