After we got engaged, it took a long time before we decided to have a wedding.  From the beginning, we wanted the day to be very personal and to really reflect us as a couple, and so we tried to add personal touches throughout the entire day.  We also wanted to be sure our wedding was casual and intimate, and most importantly for or guests to have a great time.

Our families are spread across the west coast from Alaska to California, so deciding on a location was tough initially.  We were on an impromptu trip through California and immediately decided that wine country was the perfect fit for our laid back wedding.  Given our budget, we knew we were going to have to do a lot of things ourselves and thankfully our families and friends were very much willing to help out.

Living in Alaska and planning the wedding in Sonoma was not easy, and so we enlisted Leslie Struble of Dandelion Events to help out during the month leading up to our wedding.  From the moment we first spoke with her over the phone, she was very helpful and amazingly calm and kept us calm and collected throughout the whole process.  She even helped us decide on Ramekins as our venue and worked with us throughout the year.

Once we had our venue, the next step in our planning was to find my dress.  Although we had an idea of how the whole wedding would look, I wanted to let the dress set the tone.  I not only found my perfect Carol Hannah dress at Lovely Bride Los Angeles, but I was lucky enough to work directly with Carol Hannah to customize my look.  I had a tough time choosing between two dresses and so she helped me to combine both looks into one dress with a tulle skirt overlay and gave me an easy transition from ceremony to reception by simply removing the tulle skirt and adding a beaded belt.  She also customized the appliqué on my dress to fit our aesthetic.

Our unity ceremony was also a personal touch that we both very much enjoyed.  We wanted to get away from the classic unity ceremony ideas, and do something that was unique to us, and that was genuine and thoughtful, but still represented the blending of our two families.  We had branding irons made and branded a custom cutting board with our initials.  The cutting board was given to us as a wedding gift from Keegan’s cousin.  Cooking represents the values of my Spanish culture – which are surrounded by the importance of food and family.  The brands represented Keegan’s family, which are cattle ranchers.  This was a special moment for us because it was during the cocktail hour, we were already married, and it felt more authentic to share that moment with everyone in a more casual setting.

We wanted to make sure we captured every moment of the day, and working with Ramin from The Marin Studio was simply amazing.  He was so comfortable and fun to work with, and he truly captured the essence of the day.  From the moment we met him we knew his comfortable and humorous attitude would be a perfect fit for us.  We also had a semi-DIY photobooth – we used our iPad and a tripod, rented a backdrop, and purchased the props – it was a money saver and everyone loved it!  The photos turned out great and using SmugMug was a great way to share not only the photobooth photos but also the Instagram hashtagged photos that all our guests took throughout the weekend!

We are so grateful for all the love and support we received not only on our wedding day but in all the days leading up to it.  Our wedding was a truly magical experience that wouldn’t have been made possible without our friends and family!
