Bridal Stylist Q&A – Island Wedding Accessories

When we got the following request from Jess, getting married in St John next month, we jumped at the chance to give her some ideas. I mean, how hard is it for fashionistas like ourselves to daydream about a wedding in ST JOHN! We had LOADS of ideas!

Hi my name is Jess and I was reading your guest posts on 100 layer cake’s blog and really loved all of your styling tips. I’m getting married on St. John, USVI on June 5 and am having a really hard time accessorizing my dress. I have no idea about shoes, jewelry, or hair style. I have a very simple, vintage style. I love aquas, blues and peachy pink and silver jewelry. I was just wondering if you would mind helping me out!

Well Jess, to wrangle in our ideas, we decided to show you our top two looks. Jess is wearing a beautiful sheath dress by Amsale. To us, sheath dresses are blank slates for accessorizing and perfect for a girl who likes to layer. Which look below is your favorite?

‘Vintage Breeze’ plays into your vintage aesthetic. With a heirloom Lo Boheme hair accessory and soft vintage gold and bronze accessories, you still get a beach vibe with a vintage edge. We love the natural style ‘bling’ on these heels, and you can change into flats for the reception since beach and heels don’t mix very well! Notice that we suggest soft blues for the jewelry and hairpiece. Even though you may have a vintage vibe, it’s important to take the venue into account so the blue and turq tones help tie back to your gorgeous beach setting. For hair, we love beachy waves to maintain the casual vibe.

‘Sunset Treasures’ gives an even greater nod to the island setting, where you can play up some bold color and natural materials. Tuck some fresh flowers into a beachy chignon (the dressy version) or soft braids (the casual version). The wedges are great for the beach because the surface area of the bottom works well on tough terrain. Printed, colorful wedges add a fun pop of color that will reveal itself as the wind blows. And lastly, the wide neckline of your dress begs for a statement necklace, so have fun with this Badgley Mischka sea life theme!
